Wide rear tires on cars or motorcycles have always been a styling statement and a performance upgrade. The wide tire wars between Avon and Metzler over the past five years have given us super sexy low aspect ratio tires that hook up hard to the pavement. Pick up a magazine or go to a motorcycle event and you will notice one universal feature with the motorcycles that are grabbing your attention; they all have a big meat on the rear.

HISTORY
The 130 series rear tire has been considered standard for 25 years. By the end of the 1990s you could install a 200 series tire on your stock Harley and it looked tough. Then came the 30/240/250 series tires in 2001. To install these tires the transmission and primary drive had to be offset to the left to get the drive belt to clear the left side of the tire but it created a left-to-right weight bias. For a balanced motorcycle, the 200 series tire is the practical size limit for left side drive.

In 2001 we pioneered the whole Right Side Drive revolution to balance the left-to-right weight bias in wide tire radical customs. As tires got wider and wider the offsets got more and more to the point that you could not take your hands off the handlebars going down the road. With Right Side Drive no offsets are required even with a 280/300 series tire.

For 2006 we offer complete wide tire kits to transform stock Softails, Evo and TwinCam. You may have seen advertisements from cheesy distribution houses offering wide tire kits for $1000 or so. This is not one of those kits. Those teaser kits only have a fraction of the hardware required to complete the job. By the time you hunt down and collect all of the parts necessary to complete the job you will have parts from eight different manufacturers. Part-to-part compatibility and fitment will be a nightmare, fuaranteed. There will be no instructions or tech support to call to guide you through the assembly process.

Then you have to weld this or that to the frame in the exact right
location and then you have to machine your own axle spacers to the right dimensions and on and on. In the end you may or may not save money but you will lose hair and have domestic violence issues.

The BAKER 300 wide tire kit has every piece of hardware required for the transformation of a stock Harley tire to a 300mm tire and a complete set of very comprehensive instructions: One stop shopping, period.

Every part fits and there is no guesswork. Everything is polished, painted, or chrome plated and is ready to install except the rear fender, which must be matched to your existing paint scheme. The BAKER 300 Wide Tire Kit Includes:

  • ENTIRE DD6R TRANSMISSION!. Completely assembled 6-speed Right Side Drive unit with state-of-the-art BAKER DD6 gear technology. Includes a 32-tooth pulley and shift arm. No transmission teardown or assembly required! Available with wrinkle black or silver finish. Show chrome available upon request.
  • PULLEY COVER WITH A CHOICE OF CABLE OR HYDRAULIC ACTUATOR: Special shroud design, not available on any other BAKER products, covers all of the pulley and most of the belt.
  • REAR FENDER: 13” wide and made of 13-gauge steel with internal strut supports, this sucker is strong. You can fly off of curbs with your 300lb stripper girlfriend on back, no problem, and it will take the punishment. Media blasted and wiped down with light oil for shipment. Superior fit and finish will make paint prep a snap.
  • POLISHED STAINLESS STEEL SPLASHGUARD
  • SUBFRAME: Right side. Powder coated gloss black
  • SWINGARM: TIG welded with all brackets and bosses and powder coated gloss black to match your stock frame. Includes polished closeout plates for the hidden axle.

NOTES:
The BAKER 300 kit is set and validated by BAKER R&D for usage with Extreme Machine and Performance Machine wheels. This means the hub lengths have been checked and the wheel spacers have been designed and included with the kit. Wheels from other manufacturers are definitely compatible but whole mock up process of centering the wheel in the chassis, verifying/modifying the hub lengths, and machining spacers will have to be done by the technician installing the kit. BAKER R&D will validate more wheels from more manufacturers in the future. Rear fender can be ordered painted with common Harley paint schemes upon special request. Color number and photo required with deposit.

Compatible with Stock and Aftermarket ClutchesSome small ancillary parts are required to complete the project like the tail light/license plate assembly. A checklist is provided with the kit with reference part numbers to organize and keep track of the assembly process.
